Anxiety

Worry Stories [to Keep You Up at Night] Anxiety is the worst storyteller. It has a worry story about everything, from everyday inconveniences to truly catastrophic events. There’s one about how you’re going to screw up that project at work. And another on how your friends don’t actually like you, they just hang out to be polite. There’s one about how you’ll spontaneously freak out in a public place. And one on how touching that doorknob will make you sick.

Some of the so-called stories don’t even have a plot, they’re more like anxious haikus—your brain flashing fragments over and over in your mind. Is the door locked? Check it. Check it again. Remember when you said that stupid thing at a party 8 years ago? It’s still stupid. What if you’re stupid?

Finally, there’s a whole section of the anxiety book dedicated to making you feel guilty. Chapters on how you’re not doing enough as a parent, an employee, a friend. There’s always something you’re missing, something you’re getting wrong.

Using techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness practices, I help you develop tools to manage anxious thoughts and feelings, and deal with panic attacks. I work with you to expand the story beyond your fear, to find what is true and helpful, and leave the rest.

I work with folks struggling with excessive worry and doubt, and those dealing with an anxiety disorder, such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Please contact me if you’re interested in doing this work together.

Kiddos. I work with children ages 5 and up who struggle with anxiety and excessive worry. I use a combination of techniques from Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy to help kids identify and deal with anxious thoughts and feelings. My work with children always includes the parents, in order to help treatment be more effective and ensure we’re on the same page.
